It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it

It is April 2020 and life is far from normal.

Who would have believed this would have been asked of us back at the very start of 2020, a mere 3 months ago?

But it has happened and all around the world too, not just in isolated pockets here and there. It is classed as a global pandemic.

OK, so I’m guessing we know everything there is to know about the pandemic as we sit at home watching the news reports on repeat, so I don’t want to dwell on that too much.

Instead I want to look how we here at IRSMarketing are accepting that this is the new way of doing business for the time-being, and possibly for the distant future.

And, instead of having negative thoughts, we are looking at ways to change and adapt to make sure we continue to offer our services throughout the restriction period and beyond.

What are we doing as a company to prepare?


We had the forethought to offer all our employees intense training, enabling them to work from home and still deliver on their targets. Fortunately, over the past 2-3 weeks we are seeing the fruits of our labour having taken this approach – our employees are engaged, motivated and in many instances, exceeding their targets week on week. In fact, and this is a key point to highlight, we are finding our contacts are more open to conversations – they have more time and actively seek the social interaction – this is a big positive for us and our clients.

Client and prospect communications

We are aware, more than ever, of the need to keep our lines of communication open with our clients and prospects. It is important in times of crisis, such as this, to be readily accessible, as well as adaptable. We send out weekly key messages from our CEO via email campaigns and social media, in addition we issue daily tweets and LinkedIn updates. If anything, social media is a lifeline for any company wishing to show they exist, they are performing, and they are open for business as usual! Working parallel to our communications efforts is our strong and incredibly experienced Sales team keeping in regular telephone and email contact with our clients, to ensure that their ever-changing needs and requirements are continuing to be met.

Flexible service offering

During this time, it is more important than ever to review and re-set our service offering. Mainly to ensure we are still relevant and keep abreast of the changing demands from our clients. We’ve always offered our services on the basis that they flex according to our client’s requirements, we also blend them to niche markets and now this is proving to be in high demand!


We all know that for a team to be successful, it is important to stay connected and to feel part of the team; a ‘we’re in this together’ approach. We have set up a private Facebook group to keep us all informed on the teams’ achievements and it is now the platform we use for our weekly Friday morning meeting by posting video updates.

I think you’ll agree, there’s no room for complacency at the moment and we all have to muck in to make the best of the situation in which we find ourselves and ensure the survival of not just our businesses but also the economy as a whole.

So stay home, stay safe and stay positive.
